    Asharqia Chamber concludes a workshop entitled "Rehabilitation and Activation of the Role of Women in Corporate Boards of Directors"​

    Asharqia Chamber, represented by the Women Empowerment Center, in cooperation with SABIC, represented by its national initiative, We Support, concluded on Monday, July 5, 2021, a workshop entitled “Qualifying and activating the role of women in corporate boards.”
    The participants in the workshop discussed - one of the initiatives of the Executive Council for Business Women in the Chamber - which was held over two days within the program of Princess Mashael bint Faisal - may God have mercy on her - to empower women in leadership and entrepreneurship to develop leadership skills and develop them to create a generation of empowered women leaders, in addition to empowering Trainees in different sectors of cooperation and solving the challenges they face.
    The workshop, which was presented by trainers from the GCC BDI, aims to gain female trainees a greater understanding of the roles of the manager, improve the performance of the board of directors and make decisions, enhance women's opportunities for appointment to the board and identifies the challenges that women can face and develop solutions on how to overcome them. The workshop also discussed several axes, most notably: the formation of the board of directors and the importance of having women on the board, challenges, corporate governance (the latest and best practices), the duties and responsibilities of board members, the handover of roles in the board of directors, the structure of the board of directors, processes and protocols.
    For her part, a member of the Board of Directors of the Asharqia Chamber, Nouf bint Abdulaziz Al-Turki said that the Kingdom is making great strides today towards empowering women at various levels, within a clear roadmap embodied in the 2030 vision. It paved the way for her with many decisions and measures that motivated her to actively participate in her country's march towards a more diversified economy.
    Al-Turki explained that in light of what has been achieved for Saudi women and what has been achieved today to strengthen their role and consolidate their presence further in the national economy, and despite the increasing effectiveness of the leadership role of women in the Saudi society and economy and their access to membership in many boards of directors of companies in the Kingdom, they still need a greater understanding The roles of the director, the mechanisms for improving the performance of the boards of directors, how to make decisions, and ways to enhance their opportunities in the boards of directors, as well as the knowledge of the challenges that can be faced and the development of appropriate solutions to overcome them.
    For his part, the Executive Vice President for Engineering Affairs and Project Management at SABIC, Eng. Ahmed Al-Sheikh, affirmed the company’s support for the role and empowerment of women, whether at the company level or the local level, stressing the availability of the most important skills that board members must possess, including the need to understand financial matters and how to Investment, in addition to strategic thinking, environmental, social and corporate governance standards, and relationship building. He pointed out the importance of the members of the boards of directors being familiar with corporate culture, regulations, diversity, regulations, and rules governing them.​
